History of KAMEJIRUSHI

1852
The company began when Mr. Kamekichi Hayashi, the founder of KAMEJIRUSHI, started running a pickle shop manufacturing pickled plums in Mito city.
1892
When the second generation of the family took over, they diversified and included the production and sale of confectionery made from a variety of products sourced locally.
According to history, it's said that confectionery based on the pickled plum wrapped with beefsteak leaf, was made by an order from Mr. Nariaki Tokugawa during the Edo-Tenpo era.
And based on this information, 'Hoshino ume' which is a white bean jam wrapped in beefsteak leaf was created and has been sold since this time. This is the beginning of 'Mitono ume', a local specialty of Mito city.

When the third generation of the family took over, they changed the product name from 'Hoshino ume' to 'Mitono ume' and according to history, this product was presented to the Imperial Court during the years of Taisho. They closed the pickle shop after the war and focused on the manufacture of confectionery and working on improving their established products such as 'Noshi ume' and 'Yoshiwaradenchu'.
1947
The company was established and started trading as Kamejirushi Seika Co., Ltd. And 'Mitono ume' was awarded a 'gold prize' 3 times at the National Confectionery Exposition.
1967
A factory with modern facilities was built in Miwa-cho (current Mikawa-cho) and the main factory was relocated there.
1969
In order to expand into the market, we made the wholesale section independent and established the 'Kamejirushi Shoji Co.,Ltd.' company
1970
We separated the restaurant section and established 'Restaurant Kamejirushi Co.,Ltd.' We then established a more customer focused management approach and monitor each stage of production and look for improvements, we are striving to increase market share and to promote our brand and image. through improvements in product research and quality, technical developments and creation of new products.
Our product 'Miyabino ume' was awarded the Honorary President Award at the National Confectionery Exposition in 1984.
1999
The head office and the factory moved to our current place in Mikawa-cho.
Not to mention modernization of our head office and factory facilities, to create what we call the 'Factory of confectionery and dreams', we've expanded and modernised our facilities and established the first 'Museum of confectionery' in Japan for people to enjoy tours of our factory and enable them to purchase our confectionery within the factory.
